Galapagos Experience

Galapagos Experience

Galapagos Islands Ecuador

Considered one of the most fantastic Natural Areas in the World, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Biosphere Reserve, the Galapagos Archipelago, is renowned for its scientific value, unique and unafraid animal species, spectacular sights and equally extraordinary Marine Reserve. The Islands are Ecuador’s first and Premiere National Park and one of the top nature tourism destinations in South America and the world.

A morning flight brings you from Quito or Guayaquil to Baltra Island Airport. After the arrival procedures, our Naturalist Guides will escort you on the short transfer to the Bay, where the Yacht waits. Our experience journeys can be made by Yacht only or a Yacht/Hotel combination.

You will have a “Galapagos Experience”, exploring and discovering the marine and terrestrial wonders of the Islands, seeing some of the most remarkable animal and plant species, with a special focus on several spectacular and amazing locations at the North and Western part of the Archipelago, including highlight locations of Isabela, Fernandina and Genovesa Islands, among others. Each island is different and individual islands feature certain species which can only be found there allowing a complete yet relaxed expedition though some of the Archipelago’s main highlights.

The program provides a fantastic array of activities, from nature hikes of shorter or longer length; time for relaxed exploration; plenty of water activities: swimming, snorkeling, scenic dinghy rides, glass-bottom boat outings, kayaking at beautiful locations, along with greatly informative lectures, nature talks, multimedia presentations, star gazing sessions and even plenty of time for relaxing, reading, enjoying the ship’s installations, sunbathing, socializing and, if you are in the mood, partying and dancing at the Yacht’s Bar-Salon or Solarium.

This voyage will pleasantly overwhelm all nature lovers, whether individuals, couples, families, friends or common interest groups, all aiming for a memorable stay in the Enchanted Galapagos Islands.

FINCH BAY GALAPAGOS ECO HOTEL, 3 NIGHTS PROGRAM, SUNDAY TO WEDENESDAY

ITINERARY
SUNDAY: A morning flight brings us from Quito or Guayaquil to the Archipelago’s main Airport, at Baltra Island. After the arrival procedures, our Naturalist Guides and/or Hotel Representative will accompany us on the short bus trip to the picturesque Itabaca Chanel, which separates the islands of Baltra and Santa Cruz. A short five minute passage by local ferry leads us to the northern coast of Santa Cruz Island. Our introduction to the islands continues by bus towards the lush Highlands of Santa Cruz where we will, (in season), look for the famous giant tortoises in the wild; admire the fantastic fauna and flora of the area, including many species of Darwin’s finches and the endemic Scalessia trees. A stop is made to admire the spectacular “Twin Craters” or “Los Gemelos”, a geological formation known to the experts as pit craters of “sink holes”. We continue our journey by bus, with a box lunch en-route, to the colorful and bustling town of Puerto Ayora, located alongside the scenic Academy Bay with its turquoise waters. Here we board the Hotel’s large dinghy for the short ride to the opposite side of the Bay, from where we walk a short distance to the Finch Bay Galapagos Eco Hotel. The remaining part of the afternoon is dedicated to enjoy the Hotel’s installations, the swimming pool or the beach, followed by a delightful dinner prepared by our expert Chef.
MONDAY: After a bountiful buffet breakfast at the Hotel, including a variety of fruit, cereals, eggs, milk, yogurt, fresh fruit juices, breads, cheeses and more, we will take a bus ride across the island of Santa Cruz, to board the Sea Finch (or Sea Lion) Yacht, for the scenic passage to North Seymour Island. Here we will land on the cliff side rocks, for a direct encounter with colonies of swallow-tailed gulls and marine iguanas. Hiking over lava terrain, further inland, we will find nesting colonies of blue-footed boobies and one of the Archipelago’s largest colonies of frigate birds (in season, the males displaying their bright red pouches to attract females). Along the coastline, sea lions bask in the sun, while others surf in the pounding waves along the island’s west coast. If time and weather conditions allow, swimming and/or snorkeling may be offered. Lunch is served on board the Yacht, before starting the return trip back to Puerto Ayora and the Hotel for dinner and overnight.
TUESDAY: Today we enjoy one more sumptuous breakfast at the Hotel, before starting our day trip aboard the Sea Finch (or Sea Lion) Yacht, to visit South Plaza Island, off the east coast of Santa Cruz. The island teems with wildlife, including some of the largest colonies of sea lions, always amusing with their terrestrial and aquatic antics; as well as a unique colony of land iguanas, living amongst a forest of Opuntia or “prickly pear” cactus. On the southern shore, a steep cliff allows us for great views of nearby islands and scores of blue-footed boobies; swallow-tailed gulls and the beautiful red-billed tropic birds. Darwin’s finches, mockingbirds and yellow warblers also abound on this island. As usual, time and weather conditions allowing, time is spared for a refreshing swim and/or snorkeling session, which may find us engaged in frolicking with the playful sea lions, especially the younger ones. Lunch is served on board the Yacht, before making the return passage back to Puerto Ayora, to enjoy the re aining part of the afternoon at the Hotel’s installations and surroundings or with a visit to the town of Puerto Ayora; before our last dinner at the Hotel, frequently under the unique star-filled Equatorial skies.
WEDNESDAY: After breakfast, we make an early morning visit to the Charles Darwin Research Station to observe several species of the legendary giant tortoises, including celebrity, last of his kind individual, Lonesome George. Here we will learn about the conservation efforts which, the National Park and the Scientific Station, conduct in order to preserve the unique and fragile ecosystems and species of the islands. Then we take the bus for our trip back to Baltra Island’s Airport for our late morning return flight to mainland Ecuador.
