Uakari Lodge
Brazilian Amazon
If you are looking for the best nature viewing on the planet, Uakari is the place to go. A true amazon experience. Uakari Lodge is built on a floating structure in the Mamirauá Reserve.
Their base is on three aspects: responsibility with the natural resources, increase the life quality of the people and research. The lodge is owned by the community and provides them with some income in the spirit of sustainability and balance with nature.
The Lodge is composed by seven floating structures made out of wood and covered with thatch. These structures float because were built on floating timber. They are all connected through floating runways. The Lodge was designed for minimum environmental impact, with appropriate technologies such as rainwater collection, solar power for lighting and water heating, and a sewage filtration system.
The lodge has 10 apartments with bathrooms and the capacity to accommodate in total 20 people at a time. The individual floating cabins are very spacious, bright and comfortable. A central floating structure with reception area, restaurant, bar, TV room, library and conference room. Also offers laundry services.
The food served at the restaurant is excellent given that the lodge is essentially located in a very remote region in the heart of the forest - fresh fish, chicken, rice, lots of fruit.
Uakari Lodge is great for those who like adventure. You cannot swim because the river is infested with piranhas and black caiman (there is a “resident” caiman which waits for kitchen left overs), but the guides take you up river in boats to look at the pink river dolphins. There is nothing else around but forest and the wilderness. The wildlife is abundant and easily seen. Squirrel monkeys, howler monkeys, capuchin monkey, sloth, tarantulas, anteaters, the famous uakari monkeys, assorted lizards and birds. Pirarucu fish and caiman are literally bumping into your floating hut.
UAKARI Lodge: The staff is very friendly, the activities are incredible and the food very good. For sure is one of the best places in Amazon to spot animals.
Go there and you will not regret.
